Research shows that 'having a friend at work' is more powerful for workplace happiness, productivity, motivation, and contentedness than money? Our brains are so highly social ("social processing is king!") that it matters more to our brain that we have social connectedness and embeddedness in our work-lives than anything. It may sound counter-intuitive, but those with more social ties are more likely to stay with the organization, stay at work longer, come in earlier, work harder, and be more productive - the stakes are higher for them, they feel more valued, and they want to contribute and reciprocate accordingly. So this week, if there is one thing you can do for yourself or another to be more productive - befriend a colleague!
